The Repass offers an omniscient view of grief unfolding under one roof — where mourning, joy, ritual, and repression coexist. Set during a repass, this piece captures the choreography of Black family gatherings: dominoes clicking in the living room, whispers in the kitchen, children watching adults crack and hold themselves together. Inspired by real loss and communal survival, the drawing explores the cultural reality of masking pain with laughter, motion, and food. It doesn't moralize or resolve the grief—it just asks: What happens to the pain we don’t speak? And who carries it next?
